Going through a divorce can be a difficult times in anyone's life. Not only does the divorce have an impact on your life, but it also carries with it a long lasting impact on every member of the family. The stress caused by the legal matters associated with a divorce may be minimized by use a means of resolution that allows both parties to work together to reach a solution that is in everyone's best interests.
As a Certified Family Law Specialist, clients turn to me, attorney Samuel R. Wasserson at The Law Office of Samuel R. Wasserson, Inc., to discuss their options for seeking an end to the divorce process and the issues that stem from the divorce. My deep understanding of the collaborative divorce process allows me to better explain the process to my clients, allowing them to make informed decisions on all aspects of their case.
What is Collaborative Law?
Collaborative law, also sometimes called collaborative divorce, is a process through which families can work toward resolving divorce matters and related issues with dignity and respect while working cooperatively together. Throughout the collaborative process, the spouses and their attorneys agree to resolve all issues of their case together without any contentious and emotionally-charged court proceedings.
The decisions made are designed to be thoughtful and realistically workable for the entire family. And the attorneys advising their clients have a stake in the solution staying out of the courtroom, as they agree by contract to withdraw from representation should litigation develop.
Both parties contribute ideas and suggestions throughout the process of crafting agreements that address issues such as:
- Child support
- Child custody
- Spousal support (alimony or spousal maintenance)
- Property division
